Darby Strickland counsels and teaches at the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation (CCEF). She has a Master of Divinity degree in Counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Arts degree in biopsychology from the University of Chicago. She has been practicing formal counseling for over a decade. In addition to serving as a missionary to Northern Ireland for two years, she has also supported the ministry of the church by speaking at women’s retreats, teaching Bible studies, and leading support groups. While focused on marriage and family counseling, Darby has a special interest in working with abused and developmentally delayed children. Darby joins us for this episode of 15:14 to discuss her new book, Is It Abuse? A Biblical Guide to Identifying Abuse and Helping Victims.

Kïrsten Christianson is a biblical counselor who counsels through her practice, Side-by-Side Biblical Counseling. It is her joy to help people draw near to God in the midst of growth, suffering, and the challenges of daily life. A co-founder of her church’s domestic abuse ministry, she serves as the Crisis Care Coordinator for one of the campuses and helps her church navigate domestic abuse issues using a team approach. Kïrsten lives in Minnesota with her husband and son. In this episode of 15:14, we hear from participants at two different biblical counseling conferences that take place every spring. First, we hear from attendees at the Faith Biblical Counseling Training Conference in Lafayette, Indiana, a week-long training conference in mid-February each year. Then attendees of the Called to Counsel Conference of the Association of Biblical Counselors share their experiences from the conference. This event takes place every April in Fort Worth, Texas. Garrett Higbee is a member of the Biblical Counseling Coalition Board of Directors. He is Pastor of Biblical Soul Care at Harvest Church in Indianapolis and the leader care specialist at the Great Commission Collective, a church planting movement with over 100 churches worldwide. He is President and founder of Twelve Stones Ministries in Brown County, Indiana. Garrett is a seasoned counselor, teacher, and trainer with over 30 years of experience. He was trained as a clinical psychologist specializing in marriage and family counseling but had a radical conversion in 1992, which led him to trust in Christ and His Word for all things related to life and counseling. In the last decade, Garrett has developed a highly effective church-based model of discipleship and soul care, engaging every believer based on Ephesians 4. He is dedicated to helping churches thrive both in healthy leadership and in developing an authentic culture of deep discipleship and soul care. Garrett is a founding board member of the Biblical Counseling Coalition. He is blessed to be married to Tammy, and they have three children, Rachel, Zach, and Sarah. Lucas Leite is a PhD student in biblical counseling at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife Bella are preparing to head back to their home country of Brazil to work in spreading the gospel through theological education in biblical counseling. They will work at the Seminário Biblico Palavra da Vida in São Paulo, the most populous state of Brazil with over 45 million inhabitants. Their focus is on training pastors, missionaries, and counselors to do the work of biblical soul care, equipping them to bring the reality of the good news of Christ to the whole of life.
