David Peterson joins us for this episode of 15:14 to share about his upbringing, testimony of faith, journey to biblical counseling, and valuable lessons he’s learned from ministry. Upon his retirement as a Navy Chaplain, Dave joined the staff of Coastal Church in Yorktown, Virginia, as the Pastor of Biblical Counseling. He also serves as a Team Counselor for Low Country Biblical Counseling. During his time as a Chaplain, he saw the importance of a collaborative community for those who are called into a counseling ministry and developed a passion for developing such a community within biblical counseling. Dave is a member of ABC, IABC, and the BCA, and is currently pursuing certification with ACBC and a PhD in Biblical Counseling from Regent University.

Darby Strickland counsels and teaches at the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation (CCEF). She has a Master of Divinity degree in Counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Arts degree in biopsychology from the University of Chicago. She has been practicing formal counseling for over a decade. In addition to serving as a missionary to Northern Ireland for two years, she has also supported the ministry of the church by speaking at women’s retreats, teaching Bible studies, and leading support groups. While focused on marriage and family counseling, Darby has a special interest in working with abused and developmentally delayed children. Darby joins us for this episode of 15:14 to discuss her new book, Is It Abuse? A Biblical Guide to Identifying Abuse and Helping Victims.

A co-founder of her church’s domestic abuse ministry, she serves as the Crisis Care Coordinator for one of the campuses and helps her church navigate domestic abuse issues using a team approach. Kïrsten lives in Minnesota with her husband and son. In this episode of 15:14, we hear from participants at two different biblical counseling conferences that take place every spring. First, we hear from attendees at the Faith Biblical Counseling Training Conference in Lafayette, Indiana, a week-long training conference in mid-February each year. Then attendees of the Called to Counsel Conference of the Association of Biblical Counselors share their experiences from the conference. This event takes place every April in Fort Worth, Texas. Dr. Jim Berg serves as Professor of Biblical Counseling at BJU Seminary after serving as Dean of Students of Bob Jones University for 29 years. He has a DMin in Biblical Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, is ACBC certified, and holds advanced certification (ABC3) with the Association of Biblical Counselors. Jim has authored numerous books, including Basics for Believers, Changed into His Image, Essential Virtues, When Trouble Comes, God is More Than Enough, and Quieting a Noisy Soul—a multi-media personal study program addressing guilt, anger, anxiety, and despair.
